accraGovernance and Urban Development

Global Communities' work in governance and urban development focuses on citizen participation and works with key community stakeholders to adopt inclusive, comprehensive and long-term approaches to tackle urban issues.

Citizen Engagement and Accountability

Global Communities applies participatory principles toward enhancing citizen engagement in the areas of service delivery, housing delivery, access to land and market based employment. We design innovative, community-based responses for all types of urban challenges including those that stem from the crowded, heterogonous and itinerant nature of slum communities.

Service Delivery and Performance Measurement

Global Communities provides technical support to local governments, businesses and individuals to enhance service delivery, especially in relation to water, sanitation, electricity and solid waste management. Global Communities promotes efficiencies and affordability by linking service providers to private sector and microfinance institutions and by taking a decentralized approach that empowers both local governments and businesses working in this sector.

Climate Adaptation

Global Communities promotes practices that enable poor urban and peri-urban communities to adapt to changes in climate. Global Communities designs scalable community-level interventions focusing on behavior change through use of technology and system enhancement to achieve climate adaptation. These solutions can include, for example, solar energy, re-use of gray water or working to re-plan an urban neighborhood prone to flooding.

Budgeting and Financial Management

Global Communities provides assistance to all levels of entities governing urban and future urban centers across the globe. We offer targeted expertise on issues related to inclusiveness in the development and administration of budgets and emphasize mobilizing local resources, as well as financial management trainings with a focus on technology.
