
MIDDLE EASTWith funding from Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Global Communities has established a $250 million loan guaranty facility to support and facilitate bank lending to enterprises in Egypt.
Global Communities has been operating in Iraq since 2003, implementing community-based development and infrastructure programs. Through these programs, Global Communities has fostered community-led development and reconstruction revitalizing physical and social infrastructure. Global Communities continues to support communities by strengthening local governments to be more responsive to citizens' needs. Global Communities is also expanding access to afforadable credit through the Access to Credit Services Initiative (ACSI) – the largest microfinance program in Iraq.
Global Communities has been working in Lebanon since 1997, implementing community-driven programs that address a broad range of social issues from agricultural development to education and the environment. Global Communities' current programs focus on improving the educational resources within schools, promoting agri-business, providing access to microcredit, building the capacity of local municipalities and supporting youth employment.
Global Communities has been working in the West Bank and Gaza since 1995. Global Communities' programs promote stability through economic opportunity by increasing access to credit, strengthening local governance, educating homeowners and providing humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable populations.
Global Communities is working in Yemen to provide emergency assistance to vulnerable, conflict-affected populations to reduce increasing rates of malnutrition. We are also supporting youth with employment opportunities and working with the government, local partners, schools and communities to empower and educate young people. Currently, Global Communities is helping to improve the learning environment in schools by providing much-needed resources and training to teachers and creating libraries and resources rooms.
